Both styles compliment each other since the are from the same lineage, Jean Jacques Machado is a coral belt under Rickson Gracie, an ADCC hall of famer and a pioneer in the sport of Jiu Jitsu both in the Gi and No Gi. Eddie Bravo is the founder of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu, he is a 4th degree black belt under Jean Jacques Machado and the inventor of many effective unique techniques in No Gi Jiu Jitsu. Our Head Coach Gabriel Santos is the perfect hybrid between the two styles, he is a 3rd degree blackbelt under Jean Jacques Machado and came up through the ranks with Eddie Bravo as his training partner. Gabriel is a world class Jiu Jitsu instructor as well as an active Jiu Jitsu competitor as a blackbelt and champion, nicknamed “The Twister” he became famous for getting his opponents in the twister submission made famous by Eddie Bravo.

I’ve trained with and taken classes with Jacob for over 6 years. As a teacher, he’s very thoughtful in the material he presents and the drills he has us do. He’s very attentive and makes sure everyone has the moves down. He’s also super friendly and approachable. If you’re looking for a great competitor and teacher to learn from, Jacob’s your guy!

Jacob Hillebrand is a phenomenal competitor AND instructor in BJJ. You might find someone who is one or the other but it can be hard to find both, but not at 10th Planet Oakland. Whether you want to be the next world champion, learn how to defend yourself, just want a fun way to get in shape and make new friends, or all of the above look no further. Michael can teach a class to brand new students AND black belts at the same time and keep things easy and accessible to the beginners but also detailed enough to engage the advanced students. Can’t recommend this place enough!!!!!
